Hand Painted Wooden Blocks

Being an artist and crafter, we are always looking for new and creative projects to do and shear with others. I took a sculpture class last year, and had several pieces of wood, sizes 12” x 12” and 3” x 3” and didn’t know what to do with them. I decided to take them out of the closet they were collecting dust in, and put them to use.

Halloween is right around the corner and I don’t have a lot of decoration. I took 1 piece of the 3” x 3” wood and decided to make it into a decoration. I took my pencil and drew a creepy, but cute black widow spider on the wooden block. I then took my acrylic paints and started to paint the Halloween scene. You can find these paints at any arts and crafts store. I let the wooden block dry completely. I then took a emery board and sanded down the sharp wood edges. I waited until after I painted the block because I wanted a worn out look and feel. You can choose to file the block before the paint is applied if you want a newer feel. I sprayed my block with spray varnish to protect the paint, but you can choose not to.

That’s it my easy, fun, and creepy Halloween block was finished. Now I can create more.

The wooden Block above is for sale in my Etsy shop….
