Fun Image Pumpkins

Fun Image Pumpkins

Halloween is right around the corner, so why not cut your pumpkins a little different this year. Do a fun silhouette, maybe a cat, or put your name on the front. Either way this pumpkin carving project is fun for the whole family. You will need the pumpkins carving essentials (sharp knife or carving tool, large spoon, pencil or marker, newspaper, garbage can or bowl, a candle, and of course the pumpkin).

Place newspaper down, cut the pumpkin top off, scoop the insides out, and either throw the seeds away or roast them to make a fun salty snack for later. Wipe the outside of the pumpkin off and start to draw the image you want with a pencil or marker. You can practice this on scrap paper if you like. Use the carving tools or small knife to start cutting out the image. Once you get the image the way you want it, place a votive candle inside the pumpkin and light it. Before replacing the lid, cut out a small notch on the side to allow heat to escape. Also you can rub the cut parts of the pumpkin with vegetable oil to keep them from drying out too quickly.
