Organizing a Kitchen

Organizing a Kitchen

I recently moved into a small New York City apartment, one that was smaller then my apartment before.  I quickly realized how difficult it was to squeeze all my stuff into this smaller place. The one area that completely stumped my was the kitchen. My old apartment had a full size, eat in kitchen, with a wall of cupboards and room for a table.

My new apartment kitchen is a quarter of the size, with only a half a wall of cupboards, and no room for a table. I moved my table into my living room area but as I opened all my boxes of cup and bowls, I soon realized I was short on space. I decided I had to organize. I put all my breakables in the cupboards including my plates, bowls, and glasses. I have a large space in between the ceiling and the cupboards, so I placed items that I don’t use that much up there including pot and pans. I only left a few pots and pans down that I use everyday.

Now I then realized that I had no room for food items that used to be in my pantry. I walked myself to Home depot prepared to buy Tupperware drawers but when I got there I found something even better. I bought a wooden, five shelf, book stand that I assembled and bolted to the wall for extra support. This stand is just outside the kitchen, in the hallway, and is now home to all my pantry food. I put on plant on the top and decorated each shelf with candles. And for all the spices that I use, I bought a spice rack and jung it on the wall.

It was a huge challenge to fit all my stuff in a small kitchen, but with a little organization and creativity your small kitchen can be a perfect fit for all you cooking needs.
